3 Effective Ways to Utilize Long-Tail Keywords

The websites that have the highest ranking usually have the greatest mix of different keywords.


It all makes sense when you think about it.


A website that contains a lot of diverse keywords is more likely to show up for various search queries.


If you want to leverage more SEO diversity on your website, using long-tail keywords will be effective.


After all, long-tail keywords account for 70% of all internet traffic.


If you're wondering, "what are long-tail keywords," then understand that they're are simply long keywords or search terms.


For example, "boston law firm" is a primary keyword.


"Affordable law firms in downtown boston" would be considered a long-tail keyword.


What are long-tail keywords? They are simply longer keywords or search terms.

Nowadays, it's very convenient to find long-tail keywords.


All you have to do is type in a primary keyword into Google's search bar and scroll down to see this:



Do you see the "people also ask" section?


Google dumps a lot of long-tail keywords there.


This is a great opportunity for you to use these keywords to boost your online ranking.

Let's go over three effective ways to transform long-tail keywords into serious ranking opportunities.


1. Create FAQ Sections

Honestly, this is my favorite method of ranking for long-tail keywords.


All you have to do is search for longer keywords on Google using the method I mentioned above and post the keywords in the form of frequently asked questions or FAQs.


Most long-tail keywords are in a question format anyway.


Besides, you can improve the user experience of your landing page by answering questions your audience may have about your business.


Also, you can make these sections as long as you want and include a bunch of long-tail keywords.


If you are selling any type of product, service, or software through a landing page, including a FAQ section is absolutely necessary.


It doesn't take a lot of effort to see which businesses are trying this method for themselves.


After searching the keyword, "DUI lawyer Memphis TN", I clicked on the first PPC result and saw that they were using long-tail keywords in their FAQs.



Just because this is the easiest way to rank for long-tail keywords doesn't mean it's the best.


Let's move on to the second method.


2. Develop Resource Articles

I'm going to let you know now.


You're going to spend a lot of time doing this.


But, it'll be worth it when you start seeing the fruit of your labor.


You can create separate pages, preferably blog posts, for long-tail keywords.


These are called resource pages.


I got inspired to do this after a reading Wikipedia post about World War II.


Check out how many separate pages or entries Wikipedia has for virtually any search term.


I haven't even scrolled to the middle of the page and yet check out all of those blue internal links pointing to separate pages.


I estimate that this page along has over 100 internal links.


You can employ the same tactic for long-tail keywords.


By treating your blog like an encyclopedia, Google will begin to view your website as an authority.


Internal links are a major driver of SEO.


You can magnify that impact by taking advantage of diverse ranking opportunities.


Do you need some inspiration of how to do this?


One way is to create a resource center and not just a blog.


HubSpot does a great job of this, and it's why they are a highly-successful online company.


Do you see how diverse their content catalog is?


They provide guides, blogs, e-Books, and all of the like.


HubSpot prides itself on being an educational resource for marketers and that's why it ranks well for the keyword, "what is the difference between SEO and SEM?"


Pretty cool, right?


Let's move on to the final method.


3. Write Long-Form Content

If you want to use more long-tail keywords and rank higher for various searches, then write longer content.


Do you need a precise definition to understand what is long-form content?


Long-form content is a format that exceeds at least 2500 words.


What is long-form content? It's a format that exceeds at least 2500 words.

The longer your content is, the more naturally you can add long-tail keywords.


The key here is add them naturally even if they sound awkward.


Long-form content ranks really well because it naturally uses a lot of longer search terms.


Follow this strategy to replicate these results for your blog.
